The Silos Estate & Restaurant, Near Berry
Silos Estate is a working vineyard operating from fully restored buildings used in the original dairy farm established in 1870 by Scotsman John Wiley near beautiful Berry. Hosts Raj and Sophie have owned the property since 2007, which offers accommodation in addition to the cellar door and restaurant.
One of the unique things about this estate is its commitment to the environment. In 2007 they outlined a three year plan to become fully self sufficient in energy needs, and to address unsustainable production practices, which they achieved in about two years! The Silos also became carbon neutral for its energy needs in mid-2008.The estate has been planted with seven varieties of grapes: Chardonnay, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec.
